A rare example of a historic house on its original site within the remnants of an old garden, dating from 1881. Some of the garden’s original plants – namely camellia, kowhai, roses and a pear tree, for example – remain. Other plantings reflect the tastes of mid-twentieth century gardening with a new emphasis on native trees. These days the garden is approximately one quarter the size of its original plot, which once included an orchard.
